The Cost

It will be free.

The rest is commentary.

It is very important that the Dharmayana be free and that it use the sacred economy of generosity, known in the Buddhist tradition as dana.

Why dana?

Making the Dharmayana free keeps it pure. Once money can be made, organizations fossilize. Cushy seats appear, and with that comes orthodoxy, contention, struggles for power, position and prestige. The sacred economy is a tool we can use to keep the Dharmayana pure and delicious as a mountain spring.

It is possible that, in the beginning, as the first spiritual academy is established, students of the Dharmayana may equally split certain basic costs, such as the price of the sacramental entheogen, or the cost of renting a home out in the country to host a ceremony or spiritual retreat. That would be good and no different than any group of friends equally sharing the cost of something they love.

As the tradition develops, it will become completely free.

Folks should be able to come, receive spiritual instruction in the Dharma, and go on entheogenic retreats without a single penny in their pocket.

How will this be done?

We will use the sacred economy and the practice of dana to help one another experience this vehicle of liberation. Those who are doing well financially can help with donations, if it brings them joy to do so. Those who cannot give in this manner can simply enjoy the teaching and the path as a sacred gift. We can all contribute in our own ways, using our gifts to the degree of our choosing, with the spirit of joy and generosity guiding our actions.

I believe, wholeheartedly, that if the vision is good and if it is pure, if it truly helps people overcome suffering and discover freedom, if it really helps us to experience belonging, to feel more connected to the earth and to feel more in accord with life itself, then there will be people who will choose to lovingly support and nurture this vision, and to ensure that everyone, no matter what, can have access to this transformative spiritual road. I believe that people around the world will be inspired to contribute and that, in this manner, we can crowdfund the transformation from suffering to freedom.

May it be so and, as they say in the Buddhist tradition, may our efforts bring happiness to all sentient beings!
